Prolotherapy-Questions

What exactly is Prolotherapy?

Prolotherapy is a treatment for arthritis and joint pain. Prolotherapy is an injection treatment that regenerates the joints, including cartilague and ligaments. Also is very helpful for tendinitis. This very simple injection has been proven successful in many patients.

How come your doctor has not told you about it?

One of the main reasons is that Prolotherapy is not covered by insurance. Also some practitioners are not familiar with this procedure.

How many treatments will I require?

It all depends, everyone is different. We should see some improvement in a couple of sessions.

Are there any contraindications for this treatment?

Although most patients are candidates, some will not be. Among them are patients who have an allergic reaction to injectable anesthetics (lidocaine, procaine). Also patients that had total joint replacement.

How painful is it?

Most patients tolerate this procedure with little or no pain. Some patients are a little bit more sensitive and require sedation or pain medication post treatment.

What to expect?

Although everyone is different, most patient describe soreness or heaviness for the next couple of days.

Will this affect my chances for surgery?

Not at all, if surgery is needed this treatment will not affect your eligibility for surgery.
I have been a patient of Dr. Ramon for over three years, I have had the Prolo procedure done on both knees, elbow, and shoulders. Through the years of abuse and just injuries sustained by training as a fighter, my body has been through the mill, after the prolo procedure my injuries were gone, and the pain was gone

I came to see Doctor Ramon after I heard devastating news that I needed a full knee replacement at the age of 36. After undergoing treatment with Dr. Esquerdo, I have continued running and completed countless half-marathons, triathlons, and the Tour de Scottsdale. Thank you Doctor, for helping me strengthen my knee and for looking at the big picture to keep me healthy

I’ve had a total of 7 operations on different areas of my body. In 2009 doctors determined I had nerve damage in my lower back, I went through a series of 4 epidurals with no improvement. As the pain intensified, I was not ready for another operation, especially near my spine. Getting through the day required at least 8 to 12 pain pills a day. Realizing I would not get better this way I went to see Dr. Ramon Esquerdo for help. He began my pain management immediately and I eventually received stem cell prolotherapy on my lower back. After 3+ years of intense pain I finally began to feel restored.
